Friday Favorites: Beauty Care Edition!

Friday Favorites: Beauty Care Edition!

I asked you all in my stories what you wanted to see for my next Friday Favorites and the overwhelming landslide was ‘A’! So today I am sharing my favorite bath/beauty care items, from shampoo and conditioner, to makeup, skincare..all the bath related items!

So let’s jump right on in…to my shower!

In my shower you will find an ASSORTMENT of shampoo and conditioners! I like to mix it up and change my shampoo and conditioner every few times. So here are the ones in the rotation currently:

I am LOVING Amika sooooo sooo much! My amazing hairdresser, Kortnee, has me obsessed! I just bought the orange ones for everyday use and the purple ones are for brighting up the blonde and getting rid of any brass undertones.

I still use my Kenra shampoo occasionally but it has taken a backseat to Amika.

Another brand that I love for my kids is this Love Beauty and Planet shampoo and conditioner. It smells incredible and I like their mission and purpose.

While we are talking hair, these are the products I use out of the shower:

My love with Amika continues with their Supernova Blonde Violet Moisture and Shine Cream, but I only use it occasionally because it does neutralize the brass and I don’t need to do that daily. So for daily use, I use the Kenra Platinum Luxe One Leave-In Miracle Spray followed by the Kenra Frizz Control Primer (which I cannot find online anywhere so check with your hair stylist). I definitely notice a difference when styling if I use these or not.

And then every couple of week I use this Olaplex No. 3 for repairing and moisturizing. This stuff is incredible! This at-home treatment makes a HUGE difference on my color-treated hair!

Now let’s hop back in to the shower…my favorite body wash for myself is another Love Beauty and Planet brand item.

This body wash smells divine and makes my skin super soft. It only takes a little bit and lathers up so well.

I love this one as well and my boys use it daily!

Before we hop out of the bath area, I want to share my favorite items for my weekly bath. I try to take a detox bath once a week. Detox baths are a natural way to remove toxins from the body and replenish it with a good dose of magnesium and other beneficial minerals. For my detox bath, I first neutralize the water with baking soda, then fill it with Epsom salt, bentonite clay, coconut oil, and a couple drops of an essential oil of my liking. I’ll post soon more about detox baths and the exact measurements I use for myself and my kids!

I love this toothpaste! The boys use this one as well. I haven’t tried the cinnamon flavor yet…I just cant do that flavor for brushing. I like minty stuff. The boys may like it but I haven’t tried it yet for them. If you try it, let me know in the comments!!

I was using my body brush to help with the detoxifying process but haven’t used it in a few weeks. I bought a set very similar to this on Amazon and it is a nice brush set that has held up really well over the years.

The body lotion I use is this Alba Botanica one and I like this one over a lot of others I have tried. It is not greasy and it is clean brand, plus the size of the bottle for the price is great!

Well that is is for the bath area!

Let’s take a look at my favorite makeup that I am currently using and loving!

As you can see in the picture, I have hit pan on quite a few items!! I am not going to go into a lot of details for each item, because there are so many, but these are the items I use for daily full-makeup. When we go to the lake, I only use the All Good Tinted Sunscreen Butter, in addition to my regular sunscreen primer spray, and the Eco Lips Organic Pure & Simple Raspberry Lip Balm. I bought both at Sprouts but I found the tinted sunscreen at Target as well.

For full-makeup, I start with this primer, then I use my Tarte concealer for under eyes and dark spots.

I follow with the LORAC PRO Soft Focus Longer Foundation in the shade 08 and I am loving right now! It is a long-wearing, semi-matte foundation that goes on super easy and flawlessly.

Sometimes I set it all with this powder, but not always. I use Pacifica’s powder only when I am oily and need a touch up. I am in love with Honest Company’s highlighter…as you can tell by the picture! I use it also on my eyes. For blush, I got a free sample from a previous Ulta order, so I am currently using this NARS blush.

I am using LimeLife’s customazibale eye palette, Clinique’s liquid eyeliner, and Pacifica mascara. I just found this magnetic eyeliner/lash set that I am seriously mystified by and totally in love with! I will be purchasing some other lashes to go with it soon!

For lips, LimeLife’s Enduring Lip Color in Angel Food is my go-to! I recently tried Too Faced Tutti Fruitti lip gloss in Show Me Your Coconuts and at first wasn’t sure, but now I love it! I am wearing it here:

I am wearing my full-makeup look mentioned above in both of these photos, including the lashes (which next time I am getting slightly bolder ones!)

As far as skincare, I love the line that my esthetician, Holly Tanella, has put together for me. You can read all about it here.

I just started using her latest product, her OWN line (way to go Holly!) at Boho Med Spa, the YTH Serum (and it it currently 20% off!). I am using this both day and night and it is replacing my dark spot treatment serum as well as my vitamin c serum.

That’s it!!

Now one of the BEST beauty secrets is to make sure to include COLLAGEN in your daily routine. Collagen is the most abundant protein in the human body and functions like support pillars for your skin to keep it nice and smooth. It supports the health of your hair, joints, bones, and helps strengthen brittle fingernails. However, over time, your body produces less and less of it.

So, why Marine Collagen?
There are 3 main reasons:

More and more cutting-edge research points to the health benefits specifically of MARINE collagen. Because as it turns out, the collagen in the skin of fish is very similar to the collagen in the human body.

Our collagen comes from the skin of WILD CAUGHT fish. The skin is a valuable source of collagen that often goes to waste. So, using it is good for you AND the sustainability of our food system.

Truvani treats their Marine Collagen with a non-GMO, food-grade enzyme. This process makes their collagen easy to digest (without any solvents or chemicals). So, the amino acids can get to where they need to go!

And now until July 14th, you can get 50% off a bag or subscription of Truvani’s incredible marine collagen. PLUS you’ll get a Reusable Glass Straw and 3 Truvani Guides all for only $19.12 (value $84.95).

Holly Tanella’s Top 4 Summer Skin Care Tips

Holly Tanella’s Top 4 Summer Skin Care Tips

If you’ve been following my posts, you read here that I have fallen head over heals in love with my new skincare routine! Holly Tanella is the founder and medical esthetician at Boho Med Spa in Allen, Texas. She has helped transform my skin and it is looking better than ever!

Since we are entering summer and spending more time outside in the hot summer sun, I asked Holly what tips she has to help keep our skin safe. Here are Holly’s top four summer skincare tips:

Avoid UV damage as much as possible.

UV rays can actually damage your DNA when you get too much sun exposure without any protection (over 15 minutes from 11 am – 3 pm). UV damage causes premature aging and sun damage that shows up on the skin as brown spots and fine lines. UV damage is one of the top reasons that cause our skin to age prematurely.

How to avoid UV damage:

  1. Wear SPF as it blocks the rays which cause damage to your skin. While in the sun, you should re-apply your SPF every 2-3 hours depending on how much you are sweating. Choosing the right SPF is critical. Wearing a physical block sunscreen, like zinc oxide and titanium dioxide, is better for you as the SPF ingredients do not mess up your hormones like chemical-based sunscreens. Avoid sunscreens that have avobenzone, octinoxate, and oxybenzone. My personal favorite SPF’s are Zinc It Over, which is a mist that is super easy to apply and even use on the kids, and Rhonda Allison’s Daytime Defense SPF 30, which is a lightweight cream.
  2. Wear hats and sunglasses to physically block the sun. Find the biggest, floppiest hat you can and sit in the shade as much as possible. Wearing sunglasses outside is also a must. Not only will this protect your eyes but it will also prevent you from squinting which can cause crows feet (lines around our eyes). Get spray tans instead!

Add a vitamin C serum into your skincare regimen.

Vitamin C is high in antioxidants that reduce free radicals that cause your skin to age. This is a great ingredient to add to your skincare regimen for it will reduce premature aging that we commonly get from the sun. The best forms of vitamin C are magnesium ascorbyl phosphate and tetrahexyldecyl ascorbate, both of these forms are converted to natural acid vitamin C in the skin causing no irritation, unlike most vitamin C’s on the market. These forms are also the most potent and high-grade you can get. My two personal favorites are Circadia’s Vitamin C Reversal Serum and BOHO’s YTH Serum.

Stay cool as much as possible.

For years it was thought that direct UV exposure was the only thing that increased pigmentation. We now know that heat also makes pigmentation worse by increasing the activity of melanocytes. This could be from being outside on a hot day. These all increase the skin’s internal temperature. Try to avoid these as much as possible if you’re serious about avoiding getting pigmentation.

To correct pigmentation, Circadia’s White Veil Brightener is a must-have product. This product tells your body not to make pigmentation. It inhibits your body from sending messages to the melanocyte to create pigmentation. So if you get too hot, your hormones go crazy, or you get a little too much sun, your body will not form that unwanted pigmentation. Another idea is to use a mister fan to help stay cool while outside.

Drink plenty of water.

Water is the cheapest form of skincare. When we are dehydrated not only do we feel bad but we also look bad. Being dehydrated, which easily happens in the summer, causes dehydration lines. These show up as tiny lines that look like elephant skin close up. Fear not! They are not here to stay as long as you drink the amount of water your body needs, they will go away immediately. You should be drinking half your body weight in ounces every day. If you work out that day, add an additional 20 ounces. If you are outside, make sure you are drinking water every hour!

I hope you found these summer skin care tips as helpful as I did!!

Friday Favorites: Skin Care Edition

Friday Favorites: Skin Care Edition

My skin has been though the ringer! From hormones imbalances, to bad products, and eating poorly in the past…my skin has not seen good days in a long time.

Cleaning up my diet and healing candida was one of the first things I had to do. The hormones are slowly getting back in check and that is helping out as well. Lastly is healing my gut. It will take some time but my skin is showing that it is starting to heal.

In addition to healing the inside, I found a new esthetician that has been so helpful in repairing my skin. She picked some products for me and it has breathed life back into my skin! I absolutely LOVE these products!

*If you need help picking out products, message or call Holly Tanella at BOHO Med Spa. She is able to do virtual skin consults (which I did a couple months ago because of quarantine), and is offering some great discounts for new clients.

**I am not a retailer of these products, nor have I been paid for my honest review of these products. I simply want to share because if you have had ANY of the skin issues I have had over the last few years, you know the pain! It is not fun to have hormonal breakouts and scarring. This system has worked wonders for me and I just want to share the love to others.

With all of that said, here are my favorite beauty products and my current skin routine:

Micro-Exfoliating Honey Cleanser

This cleanser washes ALL my makeup off at the end of the day. It has microbes made of natural beeswax that gently cleanse and exfoliate while absorbing excess oil. It is fragrance-free and sulfate-free!

Amandola Milk Cleanser

I use this cleanser in the morning and it smells amazing and leaves my skin feeling so soft! It is make of milk protein, vitamins, natural essences of plants, oat and wheat gluten, which all help to retain moisture and naturally brighten the skin. Its great for hyper-pigmentation and aged skin…which I have both!

Nighttime Repair

After cleansing and applying my serums, I use this antioxidant lotion to moisturize. It has an ultra-stable form of Vitamin C and an anti-aging complex which helps rejuvenate skin cells, awaken dull, tired skin and optimizes circadian rhythms. It also contains a moderate level of Vitamin A to promote cell turnover and increases skin strength.

Daytime Control

This light moisturizing lotion contains antimicrobial peptides with a tripeptide that reinforces the skin’s natural defense mechanism. It also contains lignans and phytosterols, which help to control and reduce oil production, as well as breakouts, while botanical extracts soothe and smooth the skin.

Vitamin C Reversal Serum

The Vitamin C Reversal Serum is amazing! It contains the most stable and active form of Vitamin C, which brightens and increases the firm look of skin while neutralizing free radicals. Vitamin C is a potent antioxidant and this serum also contains hyaluronic acid and Vitamin B5 to hydrate and smooth skin. It is perfect for me because I am in need of rebuilding and restructuring the connective tissues.

Need help figuring out what your skin needs?

BOHO Med Spa offers virtual consults, so give Holly a call and she can get help ya’ out!

If you want to learn more about Circadia and the science behind their products, head over to their website and read up about circadian rhythms and the skin. It really is worth a read!

Cheers to healthy, glowing, happy skin!
