What’s Up Wednesday – June 2020

What’s Up Wednesday – June 2020

It’s my second edition of What’s Up Wednesday!

You can catch my May post here.

The last Wednesday of the month I link up with Mix and Match Mama and share all the things! It’s a little food, a little family, a little what we’re doing, a little what we’re watching and a little bit of everything else, all in one post.

So let’s dive right in!

WHAT WE’RE EATING THIS WEEK:

Monday I made Danielle Walker’s Orange Chicken, we had leftovers Tuesday, tonight is Pesto Pasta night, Thursday I am making Carne Aside burrito bowls, with leftovers the following night. Then I will reevaluate for the weekend and see if we have any other hodge podge meals I can make or leftovers for the weekend!

WHAT I’M REMINISCING ABOUT:

Time with family!

We had a wonderful visit with the grandparents at Green Acres and loved every minute of it!

WHAT I’M LOVING:

Swimming with the boys and soaking up all the lake time!

WHAT WE’VE BEEN UP TO:

Recently just spending time with friends! It has been nice to expand our quarantine circle a little bit and see friends that we have missed so much!

WHAT I’M DREADING:

Fear of the unknown.

I signed our oldest up for a church camp and I am excited for him and happy to have him there, but anxieties are starting to build up and I am fighting fears.

WHAT I’M WORKING ON:

It is so weird to say, but I have submitted my book proposal (about my testimony and how God has worked in my life) to three different literary agents and waiting to hear from them.

I am also interviewing to teach with VIPKid! I interviewed a couple years ago and was approved for the next phase of interviewing, but then sat on it and never did anything. Clark was still waking in the night a lot and I was exhausted with my Candida and hormone imbalances and was just not in a good place to work nights teaching children how to speak English. Fast-forward to today and I feel so much better and excited for the possibility of this new venture!

I’ll keep you updated!

WHAT I’M EXCITED ABOUT:

Just all of the upcoming work-from-home possibilities that I mentioned above!

WHAT I’M WATCHING/READING:

Y’all! I am so late to the game but Schitt’s Creek is so great! Episodes are less than 25 minutes (Amen!), light, funny, sarcastic, and easy to watch. I am loving it!

I am currently reading A Woman is No Man and it is so fascinating!! Goodreads describes it best: “In Brooklyn, eighteen-year-old Deya is starting to meet with suitors. Though she doesn’t want to get married, her grandparents give her no choice. History is repeating itself: Deya’s mother, Isra, also had no choice when she left Palestine as a teenager to marry Adam. Though Deya was raised to believe her parents died in a car accident, a secret note from a mysterious, yet familiar-looking woman makes Deya question everything she was told about her past. As the narrative alternates between the lives of Deya and Isra, she begins to understand the dark, complex secrets behind her community.”

It is so good!!

WHAT I’M LISTENING TO:

Currently I am listening to Jen Hatmaker’s podcast about the Enneagram (post coming out next week with my Enneagram number).

And my boys sitting next to me playing with Legos 😉

WHAT I’M WEARING:

My NEW Lovebug Apparel tee!!! I LOVE it!

WHAT I’M DOING THIS WEEKEND:

Going out on the boat of course! 😉

We didn’t go the last two weekends because we were out of town with family and then had other stuff going on…so we are making up for it this weekend! It looks like it will be windy both Saturday and Sunday (bummer!) but we will still venture out one of those days and find a cove to anchor and swim!

WHAT I’M LOOKING FORWARD TO NEXT MONTH:

4th of July on the lake!

We are going to watch fireworks from the boat this year and super pumped for the boys to see them from the lake this year!

My cousin is expecting her first baby and I can’t wait to see her, her momma, and sister, who will be visiting and celebrating the new baby girl with family! We are having a little family dinner and swim at my grandmothers home and I can’t wait to see everyone!

I have a girls day planned with some precious ladies from our Life Group and we are taking our boat out for the day and it will be so nice to just chill and float with such sweet women!

WHAT ELSE IS NEW:

I go back to see my alternative doctor at the beginning of July and interested to see how the Candida is healing now that I have added back in fruit and the occasional honey. Praying for good results and blood work! And excited for my IV therapy! 😉

Well, that’s it for June!! It has already come and gone!

Have a blessed rest of the week/month and make sure to come back on Friday to read my latest Friday Favorites!

What’s Up Wednesday: May 2020

What’s Up Wednesday: May 2020

Whoop whoooop! It’s Wednesday, y’all! And the LAST ONE OF MAY!!! How did that happen?!?

The last Wednesday of the month, Mix and Match Mama hosts a link-up party, where everyone shares what is going on in their lives. It’s a little food, a little family, a little what we’re doing, a little what we’re watching and a little bit of everything else, all in one post.

So without further ado…

WHAT WE’RE EATING THIS WEEK:

If you missed my ‘What We’re Eating This Week’ post, you can read it here.

WHAT I’M REMINISCING ABOUT:

VBS

It’s that time of year when VBS is so close, the excitement starts to build, and the final preparations are being made. I am so sad that we won’t have VBS this year. With Covid-19, our church has had to cancel and reschedule a lot of events. They are doing a fantastic job in keeping all of us connected but I will miss the kids, volunteers, staff, and the joy that only VBS can bring. Last year was so much fun and both the boys loved every minute of it!

WHAT I’M LOVING:

I’m loving our boat! I know many of you already know this, but going out on the lake is such a calming, relaxing day away. When we go out, the boys enjoy jumping in and swimming, tubing, and eating…and eating…and more eating! Haha! It is just so calming to listen to nature and be surrounded by water.

WHAT WE’VE BEEN UP TO:

Well, not much! It feels like Groundhog Day over here…clean, cook, school, cook again, clean again, laundry, etc.

I did, however, get my hair done this past Saturday and boy did I need it! My roots were all the way back to my ponytail! So glad to have a fresh cut and color and feel back to normal.

If you are looking for an incredible hair stylist in the Plano, Frisco, North Dallas area, go see my girl Kortnee! She is fabulous!!

WHAT I’M DREADING:

Stephen going back to his office.

He is currently working in our guest bedroom because it is the quietest spot in the house…and it has a lock on the door! We moved the bed around and made a bit more space for him…and now he has an office window!

I am really enjoying having him work from home and I will miss him so much when he is gone all day.

WHAT I’M WORKING ON:

Writing a few different books and articles…and always folding laundry!

WHAT I’M EXCITED ABOUT:

School to finally be OVER!! Tomorrow is officially the last day of school and we are ready to close the door on this elearning adventure. We have no idea what things will look like this fall, but trust that God will lead and guide us for what may come next.

WHAT I’M WATCHING/READING:

World of Dance is finally BACK!! I LOVE this show!! It came on last night and it did not disappoint! I love watching all the new dances, locking and isolating is my favorite, but I love all types and thoroughly amazed by the talent! The ONLY thing that bothered me was the new stage – they moved from a round stage surrounded by people cheering them on, to a warehouse. The judges were lined up and it felt a lot like American Idol (which, don’t hate me…I don’t like American Idol. There. I’ve said it.). The contestants had to get at least 2 yeses to move on, or given an opportunity to come back to try again, or given a no. Then they went out into the hallway to meet with a new version of Ryan Seacrest to reflect on the performance and how they’re feeling. Even though I am disappointed with this set (hopefully it is just temporary!), I LOVE the dancers and was still smiling every minute of it!

Every Wednesday you will find us watching The Challenge. It is one of our favorites and we look forward to watching it every week. It’s kind of like Big Brother with the politicking, but then there are serious endurance, physical, and mental challenges.

In addition to The Challenge, I am watching all the girly drama shows (currently The Real Housewives of New York and Beverly Hills; waiting for Dallas, Orange County, and New Jersey to come back on.), and watching Schitt’s Creek (very funny and short episodes, which is nice for a change). We are trying to take a break from the series and watch movies at night.

Speaking of seres…I just finished Dead to Me and oh my goodness!! It was so good!! Left us watchers on a cliffhanger and I am now anxiously waiting for the next season. Have you watched it yet??

WHAT I’M LISTENING TO:

If you missed my Friday Favorites last week, I shared some of my favorite podcasts. You can read what I am listening to here.

WHAT I’M WEARING:

Did you see the necklace I am wearing in this pic from above?

Stephen got me this ADORABLE choker for Mother’s Day and it is my new favorite! It is perfect for stacking or wearing on its own. I love it!

WHAT I’M DOING THIS WEEKEND:

We are going to take family pictures Saturday and more than likely we will go on the boat Sunday.

WHAT I’M LOOKING FORWARD TO NEXT MONTH:

Swim lessons!!

Our water baby last summer at Hawaiian Falls

Clark is signed up for another round of swim lessons with our AMAZING swim instructor and I cannot wait to watch this water baby grow and learning more!

And visiting family!

We are going to Green Acres to visit our parents/grandparents and spend a few days picking blueberries, eating s’mores, driving golf carts and chuck wagons, and running off some serious quarantine energy!

WHAT ELSE IS NEW:

We are looking forward to loading up the boat and taking the whole family to Arkansas! We are still trying to figure out where we want to go, either the Ozark’s, Lake Hamilton, or Lake Ouachita. Once we know where, we will book a VRBO and enjoy a week on the lake and hitting up some nature trails! This chapel is definitely on the must-see list!

Any suggestions of where to go or what to see would be greatly appreciated!!

Well, that’s it for today!

Have a blessed rest of the week and come back on Friday to read my next Friday Favorites…it’s all about skincare!!

Friday Favorites

Friday Favorites

Happy Friday, friends!

Every Friday I will be linking up with Shay Shull of Mix and Match Mama and sharing all my recent fav finds! Today, it is quite the mix, from food to music to sunscreen!

If you blogged about your favorite things, make sure to link up with Mix and Match Mama and myself!

Coconut Bowls

Coconut Bowls was created and inspired by the opportunity to reduce single use plastics through sourcing sustainable coconut shells, while providing jobs for low-income artisans. I love that their bowls are handcrafted by artisans from coconuts that were discarded as waste, they are so beautiful, and every purchase supports sustainability and helps the environment.  I also admire their company and its purpose:

“Giving back is at the core of the Coconut Bowls purpose, and thanks to the incredible support of the Coco Community, who have not only helped Coconut Bowls champion sustainability to millions of people around the world, you’ve helped donate tens of thousands of dollars to environmental charities through Coconut Bowls verified 1% For The Planet commitment. In addition to this commitment, Coconut Bowls has offset all of the carbon from every shipment since the very first order back in 2016.”

Get your own Coconut Bowls here and use code LGRECI at checkout.

Zinc It Over

I HATE wearing sunscreen…especially on my face! I always breakout, it feels awful, it messes with my makeup. THAT HAS ALL CHANGED!! My skin care guru recommend I use sunscreen because I have sun spots, plus were are outside A LOT. Spring/summer = lake around here. Zinc It Over is awesome! I can wear my makeup as usual, then I just spritz this on top and voila! I am covered and protected!

Lakanto Chocolate

Chocolate is always a fav! BUT, with my health issues, I cant consume sugar…so that got me on the hunt for something that I could eat that would satiate my chocolate craving. Enter Lakanto Monkfuit Chocolate Bars! I love them! I usually grab a couple squares and nosh on raw almonds while watching my fav show.

Our boat!

Summer is just better on the lake. My husband is incredible at finding good deals and this boat was no exception! We had been on the hunt for the PERFECT family boat for a couple of years…and ladies and gentlemen…we FOUND HER! We purchased her last year and spend pretty much every weekend on the lake in the summer. She’s a pre-owned (though you wouldn’t know it looking at it) tri-toon and my hubby named her ‘No Plans.’ Which is fitting for this quarantine life we are living!

We have already been out a few times this year and can’t wait for more lake days!

Love Bug Apparel

Love Bug Apparel is by far one of my favorite clothing lines! Aside from it being our dear friends company, I would buy every shirt they own! They are cute, soft, durable, and so super comfy! You can pretty much always catch me wearing one of their shirts! Here are just a few of my favs:

Write the Word

My Write the Word journal is one of my favorites! I love waking up before the kids and writing down the Bible verse for the day and getting a moment to write out my prayers. I love the simplicity of the journal and the space to make it yours. I recently finished my first journal and now starting my second – Cultivate Prayer.

Trolls World Tour Soundtrack

Y’all…we rented the movie and watched it more times than I can count (we had to get our moneys worth!). Now we listen to the soundtrack allllll day. And I’m ok with it! My boys ask Alexa, “Play the new Trolls soundtrack” and we listen day after day! My favorite song is Don’t Slack. What about you? Have y’all been listening to this on repeat??

What are your loving right now? I’d love to hear!

A Simple Journal

My youngest son just turned SIX this past month and I am very sentimental about it this year. SIX. How is it that he is already six years old?! One of my favorite traditions with my boys is to write to them on their birthday in a 5×7-ish spiral notebook that I got at the…

Confronting Sin

I am not going to lie. This blog post idea came to me really fast, and I figured I better write it down now while I have the courage and it’s clear in my mind. Confronting my sin is not easy – I don’t believe anyone has an easy time facing their negative qualities of…

Hey There!

Hello friends! It has been a moment! My last blog post was about three months ago, and I have enjoyed stepping away and refocusing my mind and my heart. But I do have to say . . . I miss this community! I miss writing. But I don’t miss Instagram – at least not yet…
