I’m so excited for this new adventure!! And slightly terrified, to be completely transparent! 😉
I’m recording my very first podcast this weekend!! I can’t believe it. I’ve thought about doing this for a while but the thing holding me back was fear of the unknown. I don’t know what I am doing! I don’t know how to create a podcast. To me, this seems like a rather big obstacle…but sometimes you just have do it! Why wait?! So here I am! Not waiting, just jumping in! Thankfully I have some amazingly talented people around me who know a whole lot more about this stuff than I do!
Of course all the thoughts invade my brain, wondering if anyone would even want to listen to this! Wondering what the heck I am even thinking. Then I remembered my “why.” I know some incredible people with testimonies that should be shared, that NEED to be shared. Hopefully some of you will enjoy our conversations. Some of you will be encouraged, find yourself laughing along with us and find joy in each episode.
My podcast with be not only audio, but also visual!
It’ll be a friend and I chatting about all the things…life, motherhood, health & beauty, Jesus and so much more! I would love it if you wanted to join us. Watch and listen while you run or do the dishes, listen while you drive around town or peruse Target! And I would love if you subscribed! Click HERE and subscribe now so you don’t miss my first episode!
My podcasts will also be posted on my blog under the ‘podcast’ tab, as well as shared on social media. I will likely have it on iTunes as well but I’ve got to play around first and see how to do that! 😉 Haha! I’m learning as I go!
I will take you along with me the entire way! I’ll share here on the blog what I am learning, what programs I am using and all the details!
I’m so excited and I hope you will join me on this new adventure!! And again, please subscribe to show your love and support!
Well – we are officially in February and I am still late to the game on posting my What’s Up Wednesday posts! Haha! Maybe I will just go with the flow and make my What’s Up Wednesday posts the first Wednesday of the month instead of the last since that is what I have been doing recently! 😉
Well either way – here we are and here are somethings that I am loving, what we’ve been up to, what we’re eating and watching and so much more! Happy Wednesday, friends!
WHAT WE’RE EATING THIS WEEK:
This week I dove into my Danielle Walker cookbooks and Thugs Kitchen cookbook and I will be making a chicken & veggie one-sheet pan dish, burgers with sweet potato fries, sweet potato enchiladas and one night we will have tacos/taco salad. Plus a takeout night in there somewhere. Pretty easy and good 😉
But look at THIS!
I found this online and heard it is available at Costco!! Look at the sugars and carbs! We usually get Costco’s organic pure maple syrup but I want to give this a try!
We love dates and I think my boys will love this! I will let you know the verdict!!
WHAT I’M REMINISCING ABOUT:
Honestly January was kind of a blur! It all came and went rather quickly but nothing fantastic happened – just the ordinary daily things. But I am thinking back to a year ago when we went on our last (but didn’t know it would be our last) cruise and that was pretty amazing. Oh how I miss childcare. And beaches. And vacations. 😉
WHAT I’M LOVING:
I am on the launch team for Angie Smith’s new book and if you liked Seamless, you will love this. If you didn’t read Seamless, read this! Her writing is my fav – she is so personable and makes things so easy to understand. When Woven officially launches, I highly suggest you grabbing a copy for yourself and your girlfriends! You can even pre-order it on Amazon!
WHAT WE’VE BEEN UP TO:
January was pretty slow as far as things to do – just getting back into our school routine after taking a few weeks of for Christmas. We are loving our KiwiCo boxes, as you can see from this cutie bug ❤ Other than that, it’s just been work, book club, homeschool, reading, cooking, repeat! 😉
WHAT I’M WORKING ON:
I am going to be on a podcast soon so I am prepping for that and getting my thoughts in order because I tend to ramble if I don’t have a general idea of what I need or want to say (not making a script or anything…just bullet points of ideas and Bible verses). At the magazine we are working on the March ‘Education’ issue and I think it is going to be really awesome!! But I say that for each month – but I really do love what we have coming out! So many great stories and people and it will be a fun one 🙂
WHAT I’M EXCITED ABOUT:
I am excited about chatting with my friend on her podcast…the hubs and I have been making some goals and dreams and I am excited about those…we are almost done painting the house and that is REALLY exciting!! Can’t WAIT to be done with that! And I found this gorgeous color that I think would look amazing in the master bathroom:
It’s called Benjamin Moore Water’s Edge…but we like to use Sherwin Williams so hoping I can find a close match…any suggestions???
WHAT I’M WATCHING/READING:
I am working my way back through ‘Gilmore Girls’ for the umpteenth time – it is just so good! I love to have it on as background noise when I am doing chores or just sit and indulge when I can’t find anything else to watch. It’s the best! 🙂
We of course are watching ‘The Challenge’ every Wednesday night plus the new Fixer Upper shows and a few other remodel shows on Discovery+.
In addition to Woven, I am reading our February book club pick, The Light We Lostand so far so good! It has short chapters, which I love, because I always flip though and see how many pages till the next chapter and I think, “Yeah, I can do one more…” and find myself one-moring many times over.
I finished American Dirt in January and OH. MY. Goodness! This book is HIGH up on my favorite books of all time list!
WHAT I’M LISTENING TO:
Honestly not much recently. I haven’t been in the car [alone] too much to listen to a podcast and it is just impossible at home with the kids. When I want to listen to music (which isn’t that much either! There is just so much noise these days that when it is quiet enough for music – I just want silence and to hear nothing)…anyway…when I want to listen, I ask Alexa to play Hillsong. My boys love asking her to play ‘Who Let the Dogs Out’…so that’s fun. 😉
We were running a couple errands the other day and I had a hankering for some Gwen, so I found a Gwen Stefani station on Pandora and it has been so much fun! The boys loved the songs (apparently every song was Clark’s favorite – he knows whats what), but I love the variety on Pandora…it’s like a walk down memory lane!
WHAT I’M WEARING:
I purchased Peloton pants and boy are they like butter! They are so comfortable, stay put and just feel amazing!! Definitely pleased with my purchase!
WHAT I’M DOING THIS WEEKEND:
Not sure yet! The weekends are honestly not my favorite…I know that sounds weird! But I love the structure that the week provides…homeschool, work, blogging…I like having set things to do. SO my goal is to find some local things to do, outside, away from crowds. I am actually going to work on that list today ❤ I’ll post what I find on my IG.
WHAT I’M LOOKING FORWARD TO NEXT MONTH (aka current month):
Next month meaning THIS month since I am a week behind posting…soooo I am excited for my hair appointment Friday because I am going to take a few inches off plus lighten it up a bit more. I have my doctor appointment, which I do love, because it means more blood work and I love to see whats going on and hopefully see progress! Plus I get an IV-therapy treatment and I always love those!
We are looking at a few VRBOs to take a little family getaway (like Arkansas, Tennessee (yes, again!), Alabama, possibly Florida) but we are looking forward to a vacation somewhere! Hopefully we will find something and book it this month.
WHAT ELSE IS NEW:
February Frisco STYLE Magazine dropped and it is so cute and lovely and sprinkled with little love stories for Valentines Day ❤ It is just the sweetest!
We are discussing ways to transform our laundry room and trying to figure out a few storage options for that space…just the ordinary adulting stuff happening! Haha!

I remember a couple of years ago fully jumping on the Marie Kondo organizing train and stuck to it for a while. It really helped me to declutter and organize and was a great start for daily organization.
Problem is kids are messy! They don’t care if they pull out allllll the toys and then walk away! They don’t mind throwing their wet towels on the floor of their closet. They don’t see the mess or the toys or the clutter or the markers or the Legos or…you get my point 😉
So what are some practical tips that can help with all of the clutter and the mess?
I have incorporated a few daily tricks that help with some of the mess. Here are some practical things that help me to stay sane and organized:
Run the dishwasher EVERY evening + put it all away first thing in the morning.
Either I or my husband puts the kids to bed and the other one stays in the kitchen to clean up – wash dishes, load dishwasher and start it, clean countertops, clear the table, etc. That way, before we sit down, the kitchen is clean. Once we sit at the end of the day, there is no getting up! 😉 Haha!
In the morning I clean out the dishwasher (or my son does for his chore) while the kids eat breakfast (after eating) and then it is free to load throughout the day so dishes don’t accumulate in the sink (but somehow dishes still wind up there – apparently opening the dishwasher to put things IN it is really hard…#amiright?) Haha!
Now the kitchen is clean, lights are off and it is ready for another day!
Make your bed every morning.
There is just something about making your bed that makes the day “official” and starts it off right. I also tell my kids to make their own beds (which is hit or miss), but I try to make mine everyday. Our master bedroom is also right off the living room and kitchen so we see it all day, unless we close the door (which is practically never). Theres nothing fancy happening in our room – but a made bed just feels “clean” and tidy.
Run a load of laundry everyday.
If you have children*, I recommend washing a load of laundry everyday and putting it away immediately. Now I will be honest with you – I don’t do this all the time, BUT when I do – it is GAME CHANGING!! But it takes just one day to miss and suddenly it seems like I’m in a mound of laundry again! But when I am on it and wash everyday then immediately fold and put it away – it is so so SO worth it and makes laundry seem less of a challenge.
*Now I say this as a suggestion if you have children because if you don’t (if it is just you and your spouse or you alone), washing daily is a waste of water. In that case, I would suggest making one day a week as your laundry day, then wash it all, dry, fold and put away – you can even make it a movie day! But something about two boys and two adults – we always have enough clothes to wash a full load everyday.
Have a “lost” bin.
There are ALWAYS game pieces, random Legos and miscellaneous toys throughout the house. Find a time at the end of the day to take a bin and walk through the house, putting all the random things in the “lost” bin. Then in the morning, assign a child (or all the children) to take the bin and put all the things away where they are suppose to go. This way, the little game pieces get put back in their boxes and if the kids don’t know where something goes or it simply doesn’t have a “home,” then it can stay in the bin until it finds a home. Then when they are looking for an item and can’t find it – I tell them to check the “lost” bin.
Along with the “lost” bin idea – I also have a larger bin for other toys that I find throughout the house (even in the playroom). In the evening, ANYTHING that has been left out (books, cars, games, stuffed animals, etc.) goes in the bin and again – in the morning the kids take the bin and put everything where it is suppose to go. If they don’t know where to put something or it doesn’t have a home – it goes in the “lost” bin.
Give kids chores.
This one is HUGE. Kids are totally capable to doing things – it is just my personal OCD that prevents them from doing it 😉 However, being a full-time working mom + homeschooling + blogging + cooking and meal planning and all the things that comes with motherhood – I just simply don’t have the time to do it all myself. BUT my kids can help with things and I just have to let it go (anyone else singing Frozen?!)
My 7-year old is in charge of folding his clothes and putting it away (again – it’s a MESS in his drawers but I just close my eyes). He also is in charge of folding the towels and putting them away (and yes, I find kitchen towels in my bathroom but I just grab those and move them when I see it and tell him so he knows for next time). Here you can see his other chores:
My boys can pick what chores they want to do – some days they don’t do any and some days they do them all…just depends. But my oldest always wants to earn money to save up for a Lego set so this gives him options.
I just made this in Excel, print and trimmed. I got some old scrapbooking paper that I had, trimmed it and put the chore list on top, then laminated it and taped it to the fridge. Now the boys can use dry erase markers and mark their chores and it wipes clean at the end of the week.
Toss it if you don’t need it.
This is kind of like the Marie Kondo rule – if it doesn’t bring you joy, then get rid of it. But seriously – this is so true! Declutter is the key! There will be more toys on the floor if there are more toys 😉 There will be more clothes to fold if there are more clothes…there will be more junk to put away if it gathers on your counter. You get my drift. So go though the house and decide what is it that you really NEED. Anything that the kids don’t play with anymore – donate it! I can’t keep all of my kids drawings so I only pick the ones that are more special and took more time or we did together. I have to say that I am pretty good at tossing things and getting even better now about selling things off that we just don’t need. We’ve been painting the house and I haven’t put much back on the walls because I am really thinking about what I have and if I really like it and need it. We had an entryway table that I moved from another place and then had nothing to put on it – so instead of buying decor to put on it, I just sold the table. That’s where I am in life. Less is more. 😉
Let some of it go and be ok with it.
Now this is hard – I get it!!! I am an enneagram 2 with a strong wing 1 and 3 (depends on the month/day) and perfectionism is something I struggle with…especially when it comes to clutter and house stuff. There are just some things that are never going to be “perfect” – especially with kids. There will always be a mess, there will always be toys, scrapes of paper, tape everywhere, crayons left out, a random sock on the floor, etc. It is what it is. I would have to clean and pick up 24/7 for it to be “perfect” and even then, I would turn around and find my toddler making a mess right behind me. Haha! It is part of motherhood – it is just plain messy – in all ways. I have to remind myself that we LIVE in this house and give myself grace…and my family.
Well those are my seven tips. What do you do daily that helps keep your house clean and organized? Share below!
